Package: src:opencv
Version: 2.3.1-11
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

The libopencv-dev package ships trained "haarcascade" .xml files. These
files make up a significant fraction of the size of the package. In the
mean time other packages have started embedding copies of these
haarcascade files. You can easily find them all using apt-file search
haarcascade without any false positives. Affected packages are:

 #files package name
      1 advene
      9 digikam-data
      7 gmic-zart
     15 gnome-mousetrap
      1 scilab-sivp

In case of digikam-data[1] for example this makes up 38% of the package.

Adding a dependency on libopencv-dev appears unreasonable for a data
package though. A better way for getting just the haarcascade files
would be nice. Does this seem reasonable to you?

Helmut
