In xemacs -vanilla, enter the following sequence:
C-x ( < l e f t > C-x )
Now C-x e inserts the six-character string "<left>". Then enter:
C-x C-k C-x e C-c C-c
That is, edit the macro but make no changes. Now C-x e moves the cursor
left by one character. Also e.g.
C-x ( < f o o > C-x ) C-x C-k C-x e C-c C-c C-x e
yields the error "foo not defined." An obvious workaround is to insert
a linebreak within the angle-bracket-delimited string in the macro editor.
