/etc/mtab is not really a config file, it's more of a "state" file, and worse,
its value is (in theory) only valid for the current boot (when booted again it
gets cleaned and recreated). It should be moved to /var/run/mtab (I've seen it
in that location at least once somewhere) and /etc/mtab should be a symlink to
/var/run/mtab.
