Package: util-linux
Version: 2.11n-2
Severity: wishlist
It seems cfdisk and fdisk does not compatible with Windows fdisk on large
(over-1024-cylinder) disks. I recently broke a partition table and tried
to recover logical partitions on Linux, but Windows does not recognize
a FAT32 partition made on Linux correctly. I finally deleted the partion
on Linux and recreate it on Windows to solve the problem, losing all the
old contents of the partition.
I wish cfdisk and fdisk could make a partition table compatible with
Windows. I like cfdisk and fdisk on Linux since I know they does not wipe
all the data.
It seems Windows fdisk does not put 1023/254/63 CHS for over-1024-cylinder
block addresses but Linux does. It can be a reason why Windows does
not recognize the partition made on Linux correctly. I did not test it
further, though.

Wow, this bug is ancient. I'm going to go ahead and close it since
nobody should be using CHS addressing for a very long time. If you do
somehow still have this problem, please provide a dump of the
partition table in question.
