Here, gdm3 has stopped working. When I start gdm, it starts a few processes towards showing a greeter: ├─login───bash───gdm3─┬─gdm-simple-slav─┬─Xorg │ │ ├─gdm-session-wor─┬─gnome-session─┬─gnome-settings-───2*[{gnome-settings-}] │ │ │ │ ├─gnome-shell───3*[{gnome-shell}] │ │ │ │ └─3*[{gnome-session}] │ │ │ └─2*[{gdm-session-wor}] │ │ └─2*[{gdm-simple-slav}] │ └─2*[{gdm3}] but nothing is shown on the screen, just a mouse pointer (moving). /var/log/gdm3/:0-greeter.log is full of many lines saying gnome-session[3905]: dconf-CRITICAL: unable to create directory '/run/user/0/dconf': Keine Berechtigung. dconf will not work properly. and a line gnome-session[3905]: WARNING: Failed isActive call to ConsoleKit: Rejected send message, 2 matched rules; type="method_call", sender=":1.24" (uid=111 pid=3905 comm="/usr/bin/gnome-session --autostart /usr/share/gdm/") interface="org.freedesktop.ConsoleKit.Manager" member="IsActive" error name="(unset)" requested_reply="0" destination=":1.10" (uid=0 pid=3038 comm="/usr/sbin/console-kit-daemon --no-daemon ") and eventually gnome-session[3905]: Gdk-WARNING: gnome-session: Fatal IO error 11 (Die Ressource ist zur Zeit nicht verfügbar) on X server :0. --- Begin Message ---Version: 3.8.4-5 There are probably two bugs mixed up in these reports, as there were in #724731. The missing libpam-systemd dependency causing gdm to not start, and the mismatch in the pam file causing autologin to not work. Both are now fixed so I'm closing this, if you have any other problems with 3.8.4-5 please open a new bug report with debugging enabled in /etc/gdm3/daemon.conf and attach the relevant logs from /var/log/gdm3/ Emilio
