Package: console-tools
Version: 1:0.2.3-23.1
Severity: normal

The font lat1u-16.psf has the SFM lat1u.sfm included. This is perfectly
correct. Using `consolechars -f lat1u-16' works perfectly. If I now do
voluntary load a wrong sfm by `consolechars -u cp437' of course german
umlauts are working no more. This is just as expected.

If I switch back, using `consolechars -u lat1u' I can use the umlauts
again, as expected. But: If I switch back using
`consolechars -u lat1u -f lat1u-16' the umlauts do *not* work correctly.
In this case consolechars forgets to set the new SFM. You can verify this
by doing:

-----------
spartacus:~# consolechars -v -f lat1u-16 -u lat1u
Loading 256-chars 8x16 font from file `/usr/share/consolefonts/lat1u-16.psf.gz'.
Reading screen-font map from /usr/share/consoletrans/lat1u.sfm.gz.
-----------
spartacus:~# consolechars -v -u lat1u
Reading screen-font map from /usr/share/consoletrans/lat1u.sfm.gz.
Setting kernel SFM.
-----------
spartacus:~# consolechars -v -f lat1u-16
Loading 256-chars 8x16 font from file `/usr/share/consolefonts/lat1u-16.psf.gz'.
Setting kernel SFM.
-----------

As you see: In the first example the line `Setting kernel SFM' is missing.

The problem arose because earlier versions of lat1u-16.psf did not include
a SFM and now it does, this broke some script that used the explicit SFM
switch.
