Subject: fileutils: mv --reply=no does not behave sanely
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
X-Mailer: bug 3.3.10.1
Message-Id: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Date: Sat, 14 Sep 2002 16:07:37 +1000
Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Package: fileutils
Version: 4.1.11-3
Severity: normal

The documentation gives one the impression that --reply=no can be used
to stop overwriting destination files where -i would have prompted.
In reality it does not:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ > a
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ > b
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ mv --reply=no a b
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ls -l a b
ls: a: No such file or directory
-rw-r--r-- 1 herbert Debian 0 Sep 14 00:05 b

Version: 5.93-1

The documentation has been updated in 5.93. The bottom line is that
--reply=no is a fairly useless option and best avoided.
