Package: fetchmail
Version: 6.2.5-12
Severity: important

Looking at the following session, one can wonder what this "72
messages" refers to. It may just be a wrong calculation that could
explain why there is a timeout afterwards. At least, I hope so...

$ fetchmail
270 messages (1 seen) for ydirson at altern.
skipping message [EMAIL PROTECTED]:1 not flushed
skipping message [EMAIL PROTECTED]:2 (36981 octets) (oversized) not =
flushed
reading message [EMAIL PROTECTED]:3 of 270 (1739 header octets) . (2=
747 body octets) ... flushed
[...]
skipping message [EMAIL PROTECTED]:270 (47221 octets) (oversized) no=
t flushed
72 messages (51 seen) for ydirson at altern.
skipping message [EMAIL PROTECTED]:1 not flushed
fetchmail: timeout after 300 seconds waiting for server altern.
fetchmail: socket error while fetching from altern
fetchmail: Query status=3D2 (SOCKET)
You have new mail in /var/mail/dwitch
~[3144]$ fetchmail=20
26 messages (1 seen) for ydirson at altern.
skipping message [EMAIL PROTECTED]:1 not flushed
skipping message [EMAIL PROTECTED]:2 (36981 octets) (oversized) not =
flushed
[...]
skipping message [EMAIL PROTECTED]:20 (47221 octets) (oversized) not=
 flushed
reading message [EMAIL PROTECTED]:21 of 26 (1414 header octets) . (2=
171 body octets) .. flushed
[...]

The configuration for this account is:

defaults
 username ydirson
 limit 30000
 expunge 50
 mda "/usr/bin/procmail -f -"

poll altern
 via pop.altern.org
 protocol IMAP
 password XXXXXXX

Indeed, I suspect the "expunge" setting is not correctly used, since
the "XX messages (XX seen)" line does not occur at all between the
initial one and the one just before the problem.

The timeout on 2nd run happens really frequently, but I had not
noticed this strange number of messages till today.
