Foomatic-filters provides foomatic-rip that is launched by cupsys daemon.
After I tried to print test page on the HP LaserJet 1018, I got following
error both in localhost:631 and /var/log/cups/error_log:
/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip stopped with status 1!
After some very non-user-friendly research, I found that I had to download
firmware and install it, which I did and then everything worked.
Can foomatic-rip write into logs (or even better - show in the web
interface) an hint like following:

details

Hi,
this bug was found in version 3.0.2.
Current version is 4.0.17.
This version is not longer supported.
I close this bug. If the error still exists feel free to reopen this
bug.
