Package: cups-pdf
Version: 2.6.1-9
Severity: normal
File: /usr/lib/cups/backend/cups-pdf

anthony@Heisenberg:~$ ls -l /usr/lib/cups/backend/cups-pdf
-rwx------ 1 root root 27016 Apr 28 2013 /usr/lib/cups/backend/cups-pdf

This has caused my debsums run as non-root to not be able to check that
file. There is nothing secret here; it is shipped as part of the package
and not modified by the administrator. So it should be a+rx, or at least a+r.

PS: Same thing with /usr/lib/cups/backend/serial

As confirmed by upstream (Volker), these permissions are expected.
