Version: 1.2-7
Severity: wishlist

Hello,

Thanks for packaging dict-de-en.

I am Italian, but I find it convenient to have the dict de-en dictionary
installed in my system.

The last upgrade, however, gave me the "No UTF-8 locale found!" debconf
warning, which I found puzzling.

Why do I need to compile a german locale to have a german-english
dictionary? It doesn't seem obvious to me, even if the debconf dialog
considers it very obvious and feels like telling me off for not having
it.

Actually, the dict-de-en packages finds it obvious that I have such
locale compiled, to the point that it finds natural that dictd can stop
working at all after installing the package, and it finds natural that I
have to perform a list of non-trivial changes to my system to have dict
back.

Seen from the point of view of a non-german user, all of this looks
very inappropriate. I feel quite some unease at the situation, and I
thought of sharing it.

Ciao,

Enrico

Changes:
 dictd (1.10.2-1) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * New upstream release. (closes: #339792)
See /usr/share/doc/dictd/NEWS for a summary of changes in this version.
Most significantly, dictd now uses internal implementations of
UCS-2/UTF-8 functions. Thus, dictd no longer need to specify a utf-8
locale with the --locale option in order to use dictionaries encoded
     in utf-8. (closes: #232227, #314325, #292068, #297616)
Upstream release also fixes a typo for the dict(1) man page.
     (closes: #310349, #336049)
   * Fixed typo in package description. (closes: #311138)
   * Pached libmaa/log.c to prevent logging buffer overflow.
   * The pid file is back, so changed /etc/init.d/dictd accordingly.
Note that dictd still drops root privileges in favor of dictd.dictd
immediately after writing the pid file.
