My scanner is CanoScan N656U.
I use debian lenny on a iBook G4 and on a standard recent Intel-base
desktop.
The scanner is properly detected :

I use Kooka, XSane and scanimage.
Most of the time, the scanner makes a very loud noise. When lucky I can
scan a preview of the document I want to scan. When I'm very lucky I can
actually scan the document. In all other cases, the scanner makes this
very loud noise.
It doesn't depend on the program I use to scan. However I've been able
to scan on my iBook but I've never been able to on my PC.
I've tried the script proposed here :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sane-backends/+bug/83957
on Kooka but it doesn't help.
The scanner was working on my PPC when I was using Etch so it seems like
a regression somewhere.
Thanks for providing us with such a nice distribution.
Stefan
