Package: rabbitmq-server
Version: 3.1.5-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

when /etc/rabbitmq/rabbitmq.conf is not world-readable, running

   service rabbitmq-server restart

fails, and /var/log/rabbitmq/startup_err says:

Crash dump was written to: erl_crash.dump
could not start kernel pid (application_controller) (error in config file "/etc/rabbitmq/rabbitmq.config" (none): configuration file not found)

But clearly that configuration file was found (if the file is missing, the restart succeeds). So the error message mis-represents the error (is "not found", should be "permission denied" or "not readable").

I found the actual error only through strace.

Hi Moritz,

It's looking like to me that this issue is fixed, as I couldn't
reproduce it anymore. Now, the error is as it should be, which is:
"/usr/lib/rabbitmq/bin/rabbitmqctl: 58: .: Can't open
/etc/rabbitmq/rabbitmq-env.conf".

Also, it's looking like /etc/rabbitmq/rabbitmq.conf is now replaced by
/etc/rabbitmq/rabbitmq-env.conf.

Therefore, I'm closing this bug.

Cheers,

Thomas Goirand (zigo)
