As of the current time, if you want something like mirrors, you have to add multiple repositories. Doing so makes the package managers (especially aptitude) very slow.

That exactly is not a mirror system, but a workaround.

In a mirror system, there should be a master server from which the package index is downloaded and all other entries should act as a mirror -- just for downloading the packages.

Via this implementations like parallel downloading from multiple mirrors and mirror switching can be implemented.
