Package: emacs22
Version: 22.1+1-3
Severity: wishlist
Hi,
I am the maintainer of the Yorick packages. I want to provide a menu
entry for this scientific shell running in emacs (emacs -f yorick)
through Debian menu files and Desktop files.
The menu entry should be displayed only when either the real emacs22
package or emacs22-gtk is installed, but not when emacs22-nox is
installed.
The problem is that emacs22-nox Provides: emacs22 as well as all the
commands provided by emacs22, so neither the Debian menu system nor
the desktop file system can decide for sure whether emacs22 has X11
capability.
I would like the emacs22 package to Provides: emacs22-x as well as a
emacs22-x command.
This way, my menu file could read
?package(yorick,emacs22-x):needs=X11...
and my desktop file would contain the line:
TryExec=emacs22-x
Terminal=false
Actually, it may be nice if emacs22-gtk also provided the emacs22-x
package and command, since, for now, I can't think of a practical
reason not to do so and that would enable my emacs22-x files to also
work with emacs22-gtk out of the box. On the other hand, it may be
interesting, in principle, to be able to distinguish between the two
packages (which is not the case as of now).
Best regards, Thibaut.

This bug has been reported against an ancient version of emacs (emacs21,
emacs22) that is no longer supported. It is assumed to be fixed (or no
longer relevant) in newer releases and therefore I'm closing this report
now. If the problem is still reproducible in the current version
(emacs24), feel free to provide more information and reopen this bug report.
Andreas
