Package: mosh
Version: 1.2.5-1
Severity: normal

mosh is unable to disable characters outside the Unicode BMP, for
example U+1F35C (🍜). Connecting to the host via regular SSH and trying
to type the character works fine.

Mosh relies on the OS locale to tell it the width of every character. On
GNU/Linux, Unicode support is provided by glibc. Please see
https://github.com/mobile-shell/mosh/issues/234 and our test program at
http://web.mit.edu/keithw/Public/wcwidthtest.c

Today, glibc supports many characters outside the BMP, but not ones added
in more recent versions of Unicode. If you would like glibc to be updated
to the version of Unicode that includes this character, please file a bug
against glibc.

Over the long term, Mosh plans to eliminate its dependence on the OS for
this (since OS vendors have been slow to support new versions of Unicode),
but that is the current situation.

Thanks,
Keith
