The game uses 100% CPU in order to maximize the frame rate. But this is
not necessary. Limiting the framerate to e.g. 30 fps would be sufficient
and would save a lot of CPU cycles.

As far as I know, the upstream author already changed this, or at least
in his other remakes that had the same problem.
