using the "backspace" key modifies the input in an unintentional way:

"Arrow up" and we get

Now using the "Arrow left" key 8x and deleting "a" via Backspace results in

Insert "a" again and pressing "Enter" will -of course- result in an error:

The file schrkk is needed but does not exist.

I see this behaviour also under user "root" and also in a virtual console "Ctr-
Alt-F1" and also when using "open-axiom" or "fricas".
When I work in the bash shell alone "backspace" works fine so I guess it's
"clef-related".
