Package: ifupdown
Version: 0.6.4-4

CIPE interfaces are not currently supported by ifupdown and the CIPE
package instead installs an initscript, /etc/init.d/cipe, which is used
to start and stop CIPE tunnels.

CIPE works similarly to PPP, in that there is a daemon running in the
background controlling each interface. It's my understanding that
PPTP also works this way. It would probably be wise to create a
generic configuration method for all such daemon-controlled
interfaces, since it seems to be the pattern for this type of
point-to-point interface.

Kernel: 2.4.18
libc6: 2.2.5-6
cipe-common: 1.5.2free-8
cipe-source: 1.5.2free-8

CIPE is dead. Shameless plug: tinc supports integration with
/etc/network/interfaces
though.
