I rebuilt the package with DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=nostrip, but there was still no debugging information in the resulting binary package. Apparently that's because binaries are built without the -g option.

This was fixed in 9.20.1~dfsg.1-:

  * Add 05-hardening-flags.patch to support $(CPPFLAGS) and not to override
     $(CXXFLAGS) and $(CFLAGS). This enables hardening builds (closes:
#682167)
