It failed to build on many architectures, apparently the ones with
plain char unsigned:

The error was an infinite loop and a time-out:

E: Caught signal ‘Terminated’: terminating immediately

It looks very much like the usual bug, for which the fix is: in
src/utils/machines.c and src/utils/s3gdump.c replace "char c" with
"int c", which is what getopt returns. Thanks.
