Package: apt-listbugs

Severity: normal

Looking at the apt-listbugs code, it does not seem to use ruby-xmlparser
for anything.

Please drop the dependency.

Hi Antonio,
thanks for caring about apt-listbugs!

I am however closing your bug report as invalid since, while it's true
that apt-listbugs does not directly invoke ruby-xmlparser, the
libraries use ruby-xmlparser under the hood, in case it is found.

Back in 2014, I downgraded the dependency to a recommendation:
https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/apt-listbugs/apt-listbugs.git/commit/?id=9fcad042b9b29c2c37e217fe9c065c38704a75c7

But then I changed my mind and reverted that commit:
https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/apt-listbugs/apt-listbugs.git/commit/?id=8ad1b959864b8b2a5d04d02e01a989a0cb8e218b

Please test apt-listbugs without ruby-xmlparser: you should see that it
gets significantly slower, when parsing a large number of bugs.
Hence, ruby-xmlparser is practically required to get decent performance.

Bye.
