Package: mate-netspeed
Version: 1.8.0+dfsg1-2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

after setting the interface (to ppp0 for my case) in preferences and then
disconnecting you will see repeated messages like:

Jul 15 13:22:30 ant org.mate.panel.applet.NetspeedAppletFactory[882]: glibtop:
Failed to open "/sys/class/net/ppp0/statistics/rx_packets": No such file or
directory
Jul 15 13:22:30 ant org.mate.panel.applet.NetspeedAppletFactory[882]: glibtop:
Failed to open "/sys/class/net/ppp0/statistics/tx_packets": No such file or
directory
Jul 15 13:22:30 ant org.mate.panel.applet.NetspeedAppletFactory[882]: glibtop:
Failed to open "/sys/class/net/ppp0/statistics/rx_bytes": No such file or
directory
Jul 15 13:22:30 ant org.mate.panel.applet.NetspeedAppletFactory[882]: glibtop:
Failed to open "/sys/class/net/ppp0/statistics/tx_bytes": No such file or
directory
Jul 15 13:22:30 ant org.mate.panel.applet.NetspeedAppletFactory[882]: glibtop:
Failed to open "/sys/class/net/ppp0/statistics/rx_errors": No such file or
directory
Jul 15 13:22:30 ant org.mate.panel.applet.NetspeedAppletFactory[882]: glibtop:
Failed to open "/sys/class/net/ppp0/statistics/tx_errors": No such file or
directory
Jul 15 13:22:30 ant org.mate.panel.applet.NetspeedAppletFactory[882]: glibtop:
Failed to open "/sys/class/net/ppp0/statistics/collisions": No such file or
directory

happening once per second.

changing the interface to "lo" will turn the messages off and then after
reconnecting switching back to ppp0 will keep the logs from filling up, but if
you restart you have to remember to turn the interface back to "lo" or the
error messages will keep showing up until you reconnect.
