Yes, a person probably could pin the package in question, and then at some point in the future, unpin it. But what if you forget? I think it would be nice to "block" a package (and its dependencies) for the purpose of a single apt-get (aptitude, synaptic, ...) session. Once a bug fix was issued, a person could stop blocking the package.
