Package: dump
Version: 0.4b45-4
Severity: important
When compression is enabled (-j flag with default compression level),
the generated dump file is unusable.
dump created eg as:
# /sbin/dump -7 -h0 -j -f- -u -I0 / > test-dump
restore will then report:
# restore -i -f test-dump
Dump tape is compressed.
Incorrect block for <file removal list> at 3452 blocks
[and similar with increasing block count]
decompression error, block 6155: length mismatch
File decompression error while restoring <file removal list>
before prompting to continue or not. Eventually it gives up with:
restore: This restore version doesn't support lzo decompression
# file test-dump
test-dump: new-fs dump file (little endian), Previous dump Sun Sep 4 15:41:54
2016, This dump Fri Sep 2 22:11:01 2016, Volume 1, Level 7, type: tape header,
Label none, Filesystem /, Device /dev/mapper/pelops--vg-root, Host pelops,
Flags 83
The dump in stable (0.4b44-5) produces compressed backups which this
restore (0.4b45-4) can read without difficulty. (Similarly, this dump
produces compressed backups which the restore from stable cannot read,
with apparently the same errors.)
Removing -j produces workable archives without compression.
(This is possibly the same bug as #836548, or it might be a related
but distinct one. Apologies if this should have been filed as further
information against that bug; the different behaviour details suggest
to me that it's distinct.)
