A long time release goal for Debian has been to make sure no program
expect /dev/dsp to exist. See

But xoscope still use /dev/dsp. When selecting
File->Device->Soundcard from the menu, the message "/dev/dsp No such
file or directory" is shown. Using alsa-oss do nto work according to

Please port xoscope to ALSA and/or Pulseaudio. We want to use it in
Debian Edu, but depend on xoscope working out of the box with the
default audio system in Debian. :)
