Hi John,
Applications can ask the window manager to place them in certain places and
when applications do that, the window manager has to obey them.
In this case, what's happening is that QT5 applications now include the
necessary code to ask the WM to be placed in the last position where they
were. Whereas QT4 applications and GTK applications don't have this feature
by default (it's still possible to do that and some applications do it, for
example,
tomboy is a GTK application that does this).
It's not a bug in cinnamon to respect this. It's a feature in QT5.
I'm marking this bug as closed now, as there is nothing that we can do about it.
