Package: links
Version: 0.96.20020409-2
Severity: normal
Links currently doesn't use the LC_ALL variable for determining what
language to use, like _all_ other i18n'd programs do (at least all those
using GNU gettext). This is very annoying, i have been using links for
quite some time already, and only recently noticed it was i18n'd. There
is absolutely no reason for not respecting the LC_ALL variable, and i
even think this is debian policy violation...
Example:
I have LC_ALL set to nl_BE@euro which means my language should be dutch
(nl). If you use GNU gettext, i think this is determined automatically
(hint: use GNU gettext !).

I just noticed that Links examines the LANG variable to set the UI
language. While that's neither LC_ALL nor LC_CTYPES, it's a common
variable in that context and IMHO validates to close those two bug
reports (#149556 and #762744).
Please reopen them if you disagree that examining $LANG suffices.
Tested with: env LANG=de_CH.UTF-8 xlinks2 https://axel.beckert.ch/
