Package: telnet
Version: 0.17-25
Severity: wishlist
Hi,
I think the telnet package builds a "telnet without authentification"
-- as described in the manual page of telnet -- thus disabling the
"auth" command. (I was searching for a way to store logins in the
.telnetrc file, and only found the auth option close to my needs.)
Could you please include a README.Debian documenting this limitation?
Or may be patch the manual page?
While we're at it, I was surprised that telnet doesn't support the
netrc file or an equivalent. Of course, this file is documented as
being used merely for ftp, but the name lets one think that this is
related to the network in general, not restricted to ftp. Could you
document the non-support of .netrc, or may be suggest a way to store
login/passwds for telnet?
I am currently using "expect" scripts, I can provide a sample telnet
connection expect script if you want to include one in the telnet
package.
Regards,

Hi, the man page clearly states that 'auth' is not supported. Thus
writing a README.Debian just to say the same is redundant.
It does not support encryption either, and the man page also states that.
The .netrc is not supported, and as the man page states, only ~/.telnetrc
is used.
If you send me one of the expect scripts you mention, I'll happily
include them in the package.
Thanks,
Alberto
