Package: samba
Version: 2:4.8.2+dfsg-2
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

fresh install Debian Buster.

I installed samba using 'apt install samba' accepting the default.

samba          2:4.8.2+dfsg amd64

Files /etc/init.d/samba and /lib/systemd/system/samba.service are not included.

Here a snippet from dpkg -L samba:

...
/etc/init.d
/etc/init.d/nmbd
/etc/init.d/samba-ad-dc
/etc/init.d/smbd
...
/lib/systemd
/lib/systemd/system
/lib/systemd/system/nmbd.service
/lib/systemd/system/samba-ad-dc.service
/lib/systemd/system/smbd.service
...

This is by design (for better systemd compatibility). From NEWS:

samba (2:4.6.5+dfsg-5) unstable; urgency=medium

    The samba service has been removed. Use the individual services instead:

    * nmbd
    * smbd
    * samba-ad-dc
