What is the purpose of this list?
I know that I'm not sure myself, but I know that it isn't supposed to
be for discussion of random bugs that people find, which are almost
always already known, and sometimes fixed.
My best guess understanding/interpretation is that its existence is to
provide an centralized archive of discussion related to
'upgrade-reports' [0]. debian-testing is the maintainer of that
pseudo-package, and so [new] bugs go to the list. The difference
between subscribing to d-t instead of
echo subscribe upgrade-reports |mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
is just that d-t is archived. Instead of having to search through a
large number of upgrade reports, you can use debian search [1] or
google [2].
Could someone confirm to me that this is the purpose of the list?
Once that is done, can we please update its description? "users
testing debian" [3] attracts to much stuff that should go to -user,
and the rest (beside upgrade reports, which happen, at most, once
every 2 years or so) should probably go to -devel.
If my understanding is correct, I propose the following "short
description" for d-t:
Owner of the upgrade-reports pseudo-package providing an archive of new bugs
The long description should then also include a link to the bug page
[0].
