I'd like to suggest some more default excludes:
/home/*/.local/share/Trash (this can grow and grow, especially if someone
deletes large files, like videos; they probably don't need to be backed up)
/home/*/.Trash (Does GNOME still use this? What about XFCE? See above.)
/home/*/.thumbnails (auto-generated, can grow endlessly and get quite huge, no
need to back it up)
/home/*/.beagle (not sure about this one, perhaps it shouldn't be backed up for
security reasons, and it can be regenerated)
/home/*/.aMule (if anyone on the system is using this, this directory could be
quite large; perhaps this should be suggested but not a default)
/home/*/gtk-gnutella-downloads (see above)
