Package: pulseaudio
Version: 12.2-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
update/dist-upgrade of debian unstable on 2018-11-06. The problem first showed
itself when I
started my machine the next day.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)?
I first noticed that I had no sound (in firefox). Further investigation showed
that pulseaudio wasn't running.
So I attempted to run it from the command line.

   * What was the outcome of this action?
A segmentation violation (SIGSEGV)

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
pulsaudio should continue running and allow connections from other programs

Further information:
* "strace pulseaudio" didn't provide any useful information.
* "pulseaudio -vvv" showed the last message before the crash was a failure to
set 48000 sample rate in pcm_a52.c

Workaround:
* Edit /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf.d/60-a52-encoder.conf and replace the default
48000 with 44100
pulseaudio now starts and appears to work correctly with my normal audio
devices (:USB headset and
  built-in analogue)
