Package: network-manager
Version: 0.5.1-3
Severity: minor

Hello!

I can not yet run network-admin due to another error which is already
reported. But, when i start the vpn-applet i get the message "Please
contact Administrator... no VPN Client installed", in my eyes this is
completely wrong, i have both: openvpn and vpnc. Maybe you should try to
reproduce this and add to debian/control a Recommend on some packages
like openvpn or vpnc.

Thank You

In order to add VPN functionality, NM needs VPN plugins, e.g. NM can not
directly talk to vpnc but needs the network-manager-vpnc plugin for that.
Currently there are plugins for vpnc, openvpn and pptp available at the
NetworkManager website. None of these packages are packaged for Debian
yet although there is a bug report already (#356944)
As soon as we have these VPN plugins in the Debian archive, we well add
Recommends to the network-manager package.
The plugins itself will then depend on the correct VPN client.
Adding these dependencies like vpnc, to network-manager directly is
wrong. I'm therefore closing this bug.
Please notice, that there is already a wishlist bug for packaging the
vpn plugins.

Cheers,
Michael
