Dear Maintainer,
I just installed usrmerge on my laptop, running debian unstable. I run
into the well-known iptables/ebtables error.
Setting up usrmerge (19) ...
FATAL ERROR:
Both /sbin/ebtables and /usr/sbin/ebtables exist.
So what I did is that I removed ebtables:
sudo apt-get purge ebtables
Which solved the problem.
Now I have a question/suggestion regarding the output of usrmerge, which
told me in this case:
You can try correcting the errors reported and running again
/usr/lib/convert-usrmerge until it will complete without errors.
Do not install or update other Debian packages until the program
has been run successfully.
usrmerge tells me not to install or update, however it doesn't say
anything about removing a package. So I just assumed it was OK to remove
ebtables, and apparently it worked.
If removing a package is supported in this case, what do you think about
explicitly mentioning it in the message? Adding a simple sentence like
"Removing a package is safe though", or something similar.
My guess is that in situation where two packages conflict, the obvious
solution is to remove one of those. But because the message above tells
me not to install or update anything, I'm left in doubt regarding removing
a package. Maybe clarifying that would be helpful.
Thanks (and thanks for all the work on usrmerge),
Arnaud
