--- Begin Message ---Package: file-rc Version: 0.8.10 Severity: normal Hi, >From my point of view, the file "/etc/init.d/rc" should be a conffile, but it is not. Please fix this for a more friendly user (sysadmin) experience. This is probably a policy issue also, here is a quote from section 10.7.3, Configuration file handling must conform to the following behavior: * local changes must be preserved during a package upgrade, and * configuration files must be preserved when the package is removed, and only deleted when the package is purged. The easy way to achieve this behavior is to make the configuration file a `conffile'. I discovered this issue after the upgrade to file-rc 0.8.10, when my locally modified version of "/etc/init.d/rc" had been overwritten - and my local changes had not been preserved. Still, I agree, that /etc/init.d/rc is not suitable to be conffile. Dear submitter, if you still need more flexibility, that /etc/default/rcS provides, feel free to file new bug. Probably we would be able to invent new configration variable?
