Dear Maintainer,
I am checking whether you would be happy for me to salvage the lmms package:
https://wiki.debian.org/PackageSalvaging
Lmms seems to need some love, and I would like to try and fix the issue that
lmms is not co-installable with calf-plugins.
Lmms seems at first glance to fit several salvaging criteria (I think):
1. There is an RC bug that needs fixing, and lmms has been removed from testing
(https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=897806).
2. There is no visible activity regarding the package for six months (At least
on the PTS - the Vcs points to Alioth which gives a "Not Found" page).
2. A previous NMU was not acknowledged, and a bug justifying another NMU is
pending for one month (there is an RC bug that needs fixing causing lmms to be
removed from testing in August 2018).
3. The last upload was an NMU and there was no maintainer upload within one
year (the last upload was an NMU on 2018-03-18 - the last maintainer upload was
in 2016).
However, to be fair to Javier Serrano Polo, a new Vcs has been created on
Salsa:
https://salsa.debian.org/debian-edu-pkg-team/lmms
And he has been recently adding information to some of the bugs, including
asking for help to upload something.
The next upstream version (Version 1.1.90) could be packaged.
Also, the latest upstream release candidate (1.2.0rc7) could be uploaded to
experimental, so that if 1.2.0 is released before the Buster freeze, it could
be very quickly moved to unstable.
I am wondering if it would be a good idea to move lmms into the Debian
Multimedia team where I could help with the maintenance.
Would this be okay with you all (Javier, Israel & Petter)?
Alternatively, can I help with sponsoring an upload?
I will wait the required 21 days before taking action.
Regards,
Ross
