Package: samba
Version: 2:4.4.5+dfsg-2
Severity: important

Hi,

When installing "samba", I get an error from dpkg as nmbd service cannot start. After further diagnosis, I found that running /usr/sbin/nmbd manually gives the following error in the $

"Aug 7 14:22:50 debserver kernel: [158300.991344] nmbd[9175]: segfault at 10 ip b6244788 sp bffcf2b0 error 4 in libnettle.so.4.7[b6222000+33000]"

This issue also effects smbpasswd, as running "smbpasswd" gives a segmentation fault and the following errors in syslog:

"Aug 7 14:24:08 debserver kernel: [158378.254456] smbpasswd[9204]: segfault at 10 ip b603a788 sp bfb3e820 error 4 in libnettle.so.4.7[b6018000+33000]"

I've tried reinstalling the libnettle4 and samba packages with no luck, including purging them before reinstalling.

Please excuse the errors with my bug report, this is the first time I've used the reportbug package.

Hello,

I'm closing this old bug. Stretch package has seen a lot of changes
