Hi!
This small script implements the procedure Jens Seidel described in debian-i18n,
in response to my query about merging separate branches of PO files. More
details on the problem that concerned me (and Jens response) in:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-i18n/2006/04/msg00161.html
http://lists.debian.org/debian-i18n/2006/04/msg00164.html
It seems to work very well (for me at least). Please, could you consider adding
it to the gettext debian package?

You can try to be "nice" with the author by sending a patch which
conforms to the latest version available, however:
a) If there is a more recent version available, you should be translating
the most recent version available, not the old one.
b) Even if your patch tries not to be disruptive with the current
translation, it is still possible that the author releases yet another
version that changes strings and line numbers again, so the problem
will not go away even if you try to send "nice" patches.
So, I agree with Christian Perrier here:

Sending patches to .po files is in general a bad idea, so I do not see
as a good thing that we encourage people to do that by providing
special scripts for that.
[ Try [EMAIL PROTECTED] if you are not happy with this, but I bet
gettext's authors would very likely tell you something similar ].
