I've just installed gnucash on a Debian Sid system that did not have it.
When I first run it, it asks about setting up accounts and beginning
balances. Once that process is finished, and the main program appears, I
can click on the Help menu, then "Tutorial and Concepts Guide". A help
window opens, and I can see in the left-hand pane a tree of topics, but
at the point the application freezes. I can resize or move either window
(the help window or the main app window), but otherwise the app is
unresponsive, requiring a KILL to kill it.
If I start the app from the command line, after the freeze, this message
appears on the command line:

Hi Kent,
Despite two requests for info, none is forthcoming and the bug is
unreproducible in gnucash 1.9.5 (experimental). So I'm closing it.
If you have any remaining problems with gnucash and the tutorial (or
anything else of course), please feel free to submit another bugreport
using the reportbug tool.
