Orphaning or removal was suggested in 2009, with no response from its Debian maintainer in over a decade. The upstream package was declared obsolete by its upstream maintainer more than a decade ago (2007), because Getopt::Long grew equivalent functionality in Perl 5.005 - but the upstream release that added deprecation warnings never made it into Debian because it's effectively unmaintained in Debian, which resulted in dh-dist-zilla briefly gaining a dependency on it (since fixed).
