Hi.

mdadm's initramfs-tools hook, includes the mdadm binary and modules in the 
initramfs images
even if those are not required for booting (e.g. neiter the root-fs, nor any 
resume-devices)
are on an MD.

Would be nice if this could be eventually improved.

Having used mdadm on many systems over at least a decade, I believe
that it is better to have mdadm in the initramfs and not need it, than
to need it and not have it. :)

You are right about that. Your ideas about device organization (which
are well-documented in a link to the Debian wiki elsewhere in this
bug)  are much too broad than the narrow scope of mdadm. It has been
suggested that they belong on the d-d mailing list, although I think a
kernel mailing list (or at least linux-raid) would be more
appropriate.

I am open to these ideas, but an mdadm bug report is unfortunately not
the right venue. Closing this bug.
