Package: elinks
Version: 0.9.1-1
Severity: normal

I made some modifications to mailcap, but since elinks ignored them, I
quit qith `Q', then restarted. The session was saved and restored on
restart, I had three tabs open. The current one was accessible only
with a password, so the passord dialog appeared. I hit ESC and elinks
crashed like this:

ELinks crashed. That shouldn't happen. Please report this incident to
developers. Preferrably please include information about what probably
triggered this and the listout below. Note that it does NOT supercede the gdb
output, which is way more useful for developers. If you would like to help to
debug the problem you just uncovered, please keep the core you just got and
send the developers output of 'bt' command entered inside of gdb (which you run
as gdb elinks core). Thanks a lot for your cooperation!

ELinks 0.9.1

Features: Standard, IPv6, gzip, bzip2, SSL (GnuTLS), MIME (Option system,
Mailcap, Mimetypes files), Bookmarks, Cookies, Forms History, Global History,
URI rewrite, Scripting (Lua)

Aborted (core dumped)

Then I tried again. This time I went to to the Cancel button in the
password dialog and hit RET: elinks beeped, waited a couple of seconds
and then beeped a second time and crashed with exactly the same dump.
If instead I hit Ok (without writing any user or password) the behaviour
is the same but the dump is like this:

elinks(dump_backtrace+0x1d)[0x80cb21d]
elinks[0x8091644]
elinks[0x809197f]

/lib/libc.so.6(__libc_start_main+0xc6)[0x40136dc6]
elinks(read+0x79)[0x8055721]
Aborted (core dumped)

Unfortunately, the same happens if I provide the correct user and
password.

This is what gdb says (which I fear will be rather useless):

#0 0x4014a721 in kill () from /lib/libc.so.6
(gdb) bt
#0 0x4014a721 in kill () from /lib/libc.so.6
#1 0x4014a4c5 in raise () from /lib/libc.so.6

#5 <signal handler called>
#6 0x080a89d8 in get_invalid_auth_entry ()
#7 0x00000000 in ?? ()

Appended is my bookmarks file, which includes the saved session.

Apparently, however, even restarting from scratch, I cannot enter that
site again, even if previously I had entered it using the then running
elinks. The process I was running before restarting was linked with a
previous version of libc6 or liblua, and maybe the new version of one of
these libraries is broken (and in fact the stack trace points to libc6).

Version: 0.11.1-1

as far as I an tell these patches were all incorporated and the bugs gone
with the newer releases. (some were plain invalid, more than a year old reports,
or unreplied questions.)

tell me if you think otherwise.

thanks.
