Package: rhythmbox-plugins
Version: 3.4.4-5
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-Cc: [email protected]

Dear Maintainer,

Debian/unstable has updated python to version 3.10.4-1 and is now default for
python and python3.

An upgrade fails like this:

[ rhythmbox-plugins ]
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 rhythmbox-plugins : Depends: python3 (< 3.10) but 3.10.4-1 is to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

NOTE: As rhythmbox-plugins is in the depends list of gnome meta-package, gnome
package also gets removed.

Please, rebuild against python >= 3.10.

Thanks.

Regards,
- Sedat -

Individual packages' maintainers do not do this: it would scale
very badly. Instead, the release team schedules rebuilds in batches so
that they will happen in the correct order.

The transition from 3.9 to 3.10 as default is in progress, and involves
817 different packages:
https://release.debian.org/transitions/html/auto-upperlimit-python3.html

Some packages in unstable will not be installable until this transition
has finished.
