thank you for maintaining hdf5-filter-plugin!
When working on packaging python-hdf5plugin
( https://salsa.debian.org/science-team/python-hdf5plugin )
I noticed that it cannot load the bitshuffle, bz2, and lz4 plugins.
Investigating, I noticed that the package installs the plugins in
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/plugins, while hdf5 expects them in
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/hdf5/serial/plugins/
Indeed, moving the plugins there makes hdf5 find them again.
At build time, you can get the expected plugin location with:
pkg-config hdf5-serial --variable=PluginDir
