Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?

When I tried to open/reading markdown files in Firefox, it doesn't
work, and you need an add-on. Despite the addon, it still doesn't work.

When looking in 'about:config', searching for 'mime', it show they use this
file. After searching a bit, there a several pages describing this problem,
   like:
     -
https://9to5answer.com/how-to-get-the-markdown-viewer-addon-of-firefox-to-work-on-linux

Markdown is widely used today, so it should be covered/included as good
    as possible.

    Best regards,
    - Eric

Dear Eric,

thank you for your report; I did not know that Firefox does not display
Markdown files as text files. In any case, changing the contents of the
`/etc/mime.types` file distributed by the `media-types` package does not
change the behaviour of Firefox, which probably uses a different system
to detect the media type of local files, so I am closing this bug
accordingly.

Using a `.mime.types` file in my home directory works, so it might solve
your problem. Also, I tested the Chromium web browser, and found that
it displays Markdown files as text with no problem.

An issue is already open in the bug tracker of Firefox, so you can
follow up there.

Bonne journée,

Charles
