Package: kdm
Version: 4:4.11.13-2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I have had a problem with autologin on desktop computers.

   * What led up to the situation?
I attempted to use autologin with KDM (and LightDM for that matter).

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?
I uncommented the lines in kdmrc that enable autologin, as can be seen
in the attached kdmrc.

   * What was the outcome of this action?
Nothing happened upon reboot, KDM still showed a greeter asking for
username and password.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
I expected KDM to log me in to my desktop as I had configured it to
do.

KDM has only been tested with XFCE. But on two different desktop computers, it
has failed to autologin, and has continued to ask for username and password.
The reason I mention LightDM is because LightDM also failed to autologin. These
were installed on a nearly clean installation of Debian 8.2 with XFCE, SSH
server, and standard system utilities tasks selected on install.

The LightDM bug report can be found at #807616.

kdm was last released with Debian 8 (jessie) in April 2015
and was removed from the Debian archive afterwards.
It has been superseded by sddm.
See https://bugs.debian.org/803635 for details on the removal.
I'm closing the remaining bug reports now.
