Dear Maintainer,

i am in debian stable repo. i am started with debian 12. i am updated all the
packages uptodate but the /etc/os-release still showing as 12 but 12.1 is
already out the /etc/os-release not updating to 12.1

This is by design. All point releases of Debian 12 identify as Debian 12 as far
as os-release is concerned. If you want to know the point release, you can look
at /etc/debian_version, which is updated at every point release, as indicated by
the changelog.

Please note that this is allowed by the standards, and also the Release Managers
want it that way, so if this is ever going to change, it should be as the result
of a discussion with them (not by a bug in base-files).

Note how the reportbug program knows you are actually using Debian 12.1 and
included the information in the bug report. This is a sign that the information
is really there, just not exactly where you expected it to be.
