How to reproduce in scribus:

create a text frame
edit it
Select font "Lato Black"
scroll down the fonts just using the mouse wheel (not the drop down list)
go past "Lato Bold"

tested with
scribus 1.5.0svn201503130201-30
scribus 1.4.4

The fonts from 2014-09-01 available in this zip file fix this behaviour:
