this is not really a request to have the new upstream version packaged, as
0.66 works well enough for me, but mainly for me to provide updated patches
against 0.70. i tested the old patches and one failed, so i decided to
update both of them so that they apply cleanly.
i haven't tested these patches, except to insure that they apply, but i
reviewed the code and i didn't see any changes between 0.66 and 0.70 that
should affect the intent of the patches (either at compile or build time).
